Drishti IAS to Provide Rs 10 Lakh Each to Families of UPSC Aspirants Dead in Rajendra Nagar Flooding Incident
Three candidates preparing for the UPSC examination, scheduled for July 27, were drowned in Old Rajendra Nagar. These included Shreya Yadav, from Uttar Pradesh; Nivin Dalwin, from Kerala; and Tanya Soni, from Telangana. They were students who had been caught in their library basement at the campus of Rau’s IAS while heavy rain had caused a nearby drain to burst its banks. This unfortunate event has brought focus to the safety preparedness of educational institutions and raised questions about the readiness of infrastructure to brace such forces of nature.
A Incident
Days of incessant rainfall in the region and consequent waterlogging had possibly created an overwhelming situation that the drainage system failed to manage. The basement of the library, in which reportedly many students preparing for the UPSC examinations got trapped, became an unexpected trap, leading to the tragic loss of life. The death of Nilesh Rai, the fourth student, because of another shocking incident caused by electricity on a flooded road, has made the pain of the community sharper.
Drishti IAS Steps Up To Help Families Of Victims
Feeling the impact of this huge loss, Drishti IAS has announced a balanced initiative to help the families of such a tragedy. Vikas Divyakirti, the founder of Drishti IAS, said the institute shall provide Rs 10 lakh financial help to the families of the students who have lost their wards. This is supposed to help reduce the financial burden families now have to deal with in desperate times.
Divyakirti said in a press release, in the past few days, in Old Rajendra Nagar, due to waterlogging, four bright students died untimely in two accidents. One student, Nilesh Rai, died due to electric shock on a waterlogged road, while three students Shreya Yadav, Tanya Soni, and Nivin Dalwin have fallen victim to sudden water accumulation in the basement of the coaching institute. There is no doubt that this is a very difficult time for the families of these four children. In this great sorrow, we stand united with them.”
The statement is emotionally heavy for the community, expressing sadness that most people are unable to otherwise articulate in the face of the tragedy just experienced. The financial help from Drishti IAS will in no way be some compensation for the pain of loss but, for sure, is a big gesture of togetherness in the moment of huge pain.
Free Academic Support for Current Students
Apart from the financial support, Drishti IAS has further committed to prepare all current students of Rau’s IAS free of cost. This will be administered with offering classes for general studies, test series, and optional subjects until proper arrangements are made to reinstate the normal functioning of the facility.
While the great emotional setback caused by the death of their fellow classmates could directly influence the studies of many students, the free provision of necessary academic resources is very important during these times. Drishti IAS hopes to enable such students to continue keeping a focus on their preparations for the UPSC examination by availing them as many educational materials as possible.
A Call for Safety and Infrastructure Improvement
The incident reflects on the possible safety of educational institutions, especially in flood-prone areas. It remains imperative for schools and specially coaching centers to do take one further step by making a detailed assessment of their infrastructure and ensuring full safety for their students.
To prevent such occurrences from repeating, community heads and local authorities must work together to create improved drainage systems, maintain the infrastructure constantly, and provide emergency protocols. The accident clearly indicates the vulnerability of the environmental security of the students and the lack of taking in advance all possible measures necessary for their safety.
Community Support and Mourning
Of course, the loss of these young aspirants is something that has befallen the fraternity, and the response is seen among other students, teachers, and the residents of Old Rajendra Nagar who, for the very first time, have been so ardently attached with so many obsequies. People were coming together to pay homage, supporting shattered groups of families, vigils, and memorial services where people narrated their sorrows and remembered the beautiful lives that Shreya, Nivin, Tanya, and Nilesh lived.
That the latter is true is showed by the community response: it emphasized wholeness again, not just of the students, but also of the wider net of supporters between aspirants and their families. But communities generally have a way of proving strong and deeply resilient in the face of tragedy, delivering warmth and togetherness to the needy.
Final Thoughts
The tragic death of young aspirants of the UPSC examination at Old Rajendra Nagar has shaken the community and evoked serious concerns regarding the grievously felt necessity of better safety arrangements in the educational institutions. It is highly appreciated that Drishti IAS has taken the initiative to provide financial assistance to such families and academic support to current students.
While the community is still reeling from the loss of these bright young minds, there is a need to remember what they aimed to be. This needs to be changed, together and with the effort of educational institutions, local authorities, and community as a whole, so that no such incidents occur again. The memories of Shreya Yadav, Nivin Dalwin, Tanya Soni, and Nilesh Rai will live on, inspiring others who knew the fallen as they go out to realize their own goals in honor of their friends.
