The sequel to the much awaited Stree, directed by Amar Kaushik, featuring Shraddha Kapoor opposite Rajkummar Rao, remained in the news for making huge leaps at the box office.

Strong Opening and Day 2 Performance

Having scored high on its opening day, the film managed to keep the audience interested in the film despite falling collections after Independence day.

Stree 2 minted Rs 60 crore net, including an estimated 7-8 crore from paid previews on Wednesday night. An added advantage was the release on Independence Day, that helped in such phenomenal first-day collections. The writing, however, was on the wall with the numbers falling on the second day.

Day 2 Drop and the Ongoing Success

The second day of release, nearly 40 percent lower than collections on the first day, witnessed Stree 2 perform very well with Rs 30 crore. That kind of a figure for a Friday was quite something, as most of the films released this year couldn’t collect so much over an entire weekend.

The movie has earned Rs 90.30 crore as the cumulative total on the second day. Stree 2 is on fire with this very potent performance and all set to cross the Rs 100 crore mark at least by Saturday. The film’s prospects are only going to become brighter during the weekend because of the increase in collections.

Comparison with Other Releases

Stree 2 was released with Vedaa and Khel Khel Mein, but it has far outpaced these other releases. Where Vedaa and Khel Khel Mein struggled at the box office and had shaved numbers in single digits in the first two days, Stree 2 did pretty well and collected big numbers at the box office because of very good word-of-mouth and wonderful reviews.

The success of the film has been that it functioned in both multiplexes and single screens. Though Khel Khel Mein could manage a little smaller running and emphasized only single screens, Stree 2 was nearly able to manage the 3500-4000 screen count. It is majorly this wide release strategy that has helped in creating domination in the present box office scenario.

Audience and Critical Reception

Stree 2 has been received quite positively by the audience, with people appreciating the perfect blend of horror and comedy. Audiences have loved its engrossing storyline and powerful performances of the lead actors, which have helped the film to achieve such robust box office figures. The wide release and the screen count are helping the movie further as it is occupying a good share of eyeballs.

Looking Ahead

As Stree 2 inches closer to the Rs 100 crore mark, there is much scope for optimism regarding its future at the box office. With the upcoming weekend and the Raksha Bandhan holiday on Monday, collections will continue to rise. The real test lies in the film’s capability of holding great numbers for the next few days, on the basis of which can be determined the remaining successful run and life of the film.

Conclusion

Stree 2, with very good opening day collections in hand and a decent turnout the next day considering it was a normal drop, is assured of sustaining well over Rs 100 crore. It continues the good run at the box office. There is no doubt now that a strong start and wide release have consummated the film’s place as one of the majors in the current cinematic landscape. The performance over the days to come shall be watched keenly.
