Thangalaan: A Historical Epic with a Supernatural Twist:
St.ami ABOUT Pa Ranjith’s Thangalaan is a mid-19th century India-set tale that takes the viewer through the lives of Veppur, a North Arcot village. He directs the film himself. Vikram stars as the titular Thangalaan, the tribal head who fights not only foreign exploitation but supernatural forces as well. Sweeping in narrative as it talks about colonialism, ancestral legacy, and the eternal battle between tradition and modernity.
Story Summary
The novel starts in 1850 CE. Thangalaan is a tribal leader and great landlord who lives with his family. The native zamindar is taking away his land, and greater threat makes the family a debtor so that they are placed in debt bondage. Such suspense is not hard to merge with the coming of Lord Clement, the British officer. He is searching for gold that is supposed to be hidden all over the region, and, upon receiving several warnings about supernatural forces, the search for gold becomes a deadly adventure for the brave Thangalaan.
The movie goes very deep into history; it has flashbacks revealing a feud between the great-grandfather of Thangalaan with a sorceress from the Nagar tribe named Aarathi. A king had coerced Kaadaiyan to dig out the gold into the land. There was such a calamitous battle, and that this magical change occurred in the gold. It is in the present times that these human and supernatural challenges gush through his life, culminating into his insight about his past lives and final battle to garner the gold for his community and his efforts at resisting foreign exploitation.
Vikram’s Stellar Performance
Vikram and it is going to stay with me, alongside multiple roles comprising of Thangalaan, his great-grandfather Kaadaiyan, and the other important roles, such as Arasan “Aaran” and Adhi Muni. His versatility in shifting between these rolls adds some extra depth to the story. Parvathy Thiruvothu do a beautiful job of Gangamma, Thangalaan’s wife. Malavika Mohanan is shining bright as Aarathi, this enigmatic sorceress. The British officer driven by greed, Lord Clement, is played by Daniel Caltagirone.
Details of the Streaming of Thangalaan
Thangalaan is now coming to Netflix after a super grand theatrical release on August 15, 2024. Thangalaan was scheduled to hit theatres in January 2024; however, the screening date was shifted for previewing at film festivals that then received a U/A certification before its theatrical release. According to reports in the media, it has been sold to Netflix, with the digital streaming rights pegged at Rs 35 crore. Thangalaan will have a digital release on Netflix from September 20, 2024.
Demonte Colony 2: A spine-tingling supernatural thriller.

This supernatural thriller, under the direction of Ajay Gnanamuthu, tells chill after chills that happen after discovering an ancient curse connected to Demonte Colony. It is a sequel to the super hit in 2015, Demonte Colony. The eerie feel and the weird twists in the film raise the horror franchise to new heights.
In Demonte Colony 2, Arulnithi will play as a double role as Srinivasan “Srini” and Raghunanthan “Raghu.” Brothers “Srini” and “Raghu” have a complicated relationship. The movie starts from where the two brothers get entangled with a haunted place known as Demonte Colony, where strange and supernatural occurrences begin to haunt them. Priya Bhavani Shankar plays the role of Debbie and Archana Ravichandran playing half-sister Aishwarya. It brings them to the doorstep of confronting the malevolent spirit in the form of John Demonte as portrayed by Antti Jääskeläinen.
A big and energetic cast can be seen with Arun Pandian doubling up as Dr. Richard, Debbie’s father-in-law, and Tsering Dorjee as a daoshi – a Tibetan spiritual guide. Story The ideas in the first film are taken ahead in how past sins and curses come to haunt the present. The spooky setting of Demonte Colony, together with the psychological tangle in which the characters are caught, makes for a thrillingly frightening experience.
Multi layer movie in terms of Arulnithi plays both brothers, Srini and Raghu. These two have to finally overcome the supernatural terrors raging all around them, and also the demons inside. Best supporting actors are Meenakshi Govindarajan as Adithi and Sarjano Khalid as Samuel “Sam” Richard. Thrilling narrative, haunting visuals make this a must watch for horror fans.

Demonte Colony 2 Streaming soon on Zee5. Although the movie was scheduled to release in the month of September 2023, due to post-production issues, this movie is delayed in its theatrical release. These spine-chilling thrillers would have started streaming from 27th Sept 2024 on Zee5.
