New Zealand delegation calls on Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel, in a bid to strengthen ties

This was a courtesy visit to make people aware of collaboration of any nature, a nine-member delegation from New Zealand, consisting of Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Commerce Todd McClay and New Zealand’s High Commissioner to India Patrick Rata, called upon Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel in Gandhinagar. The delegation visited to identify opportunities wherein New Zealand and Gujarat could cooperate in areas like agriculture, dairying, renewable energy, and tourism. In this courtesy meeting, both parties showed interest in developing long-term cultural and economic relations. This was in regard to the discussions of potential collaborations that would benefit both regions, showing mutual commitment towards growth and development.

Firming Up Ties in Agriculture and Dairy
Minister McClay communicated New Zealand’s interest in firming its agricultural ties with Gujarat in respect of dairy. He said New Zealand is a world leader in the field of dairy technology and expressed its interest in sharing such expertise with Gujarat in order to upgrade local dairying. Another point that he brought out was the vision of Chief Minister Patel to double farmers’ incomes through cow-based farming and proposed the initiation of a ‘Farmer Exchange Programme.’ According to him, this would help farmers from both the regions exchange knowledge and practices with a view to enhancing agricultural cooperation and moving forward in the dairy sector.

He added that New Zealand’s advanced dairy technologies and practices can be of great utility for the cooperative sectors in Gujarat. The Chief Minister reiterated that cooperation in the field of animal husbandry and cooperative movement was very necessary in the agricultural scenario of Gujarat.

This emphasized the commitment of the state toward sustainable development and innovation.

Minister McClay showed interest in the works that Gujarat had done in matters of renewable energy and got very excited by initiating some joint initiatives between the two regions using the strengths of both. Acknowledging the Gujarati Community in New Zealand
During the meeting, Chief Minister Patel also expressed his recognition for the hardworking Gujarati community settled in New Zealand.
