Maharashtra Government Served with Notice by Eknath Shinde’s Davos Outstation Expenses Bouncing Back
A Swiss firm has served a legal notice to the Maharashtra government for pending bills of Rs 1.58 crore relating to event services provided for Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s visit to the World Economic Forum in Davos earlier this year. The controversy could prove damaging to the state’s international image and status as well as relations with Switzerland.

A Swiss-based firm, SKAAH GmbH, has written to the Maharashtra authorities stating it has not recovered the due amount of Rs 1,58,64,625.90 from it. As many as 23 services had been rendered by the company to a delegation led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde during the WEF’s 54th Annual Meeting at Davos in January 2024. In this, logistical support was provided for chief minister as well as for some of the state ministers as well as officials of the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC).
On August 28, 2024, the legal notice was received by JURIS WIZ, which is one of the law firms representing SKAAH GmbH from Germany. It was addressed to Chief Minister Shinde and other government authorities as well as MIDC, which, with a commitment towards managing the state’s industrial infrastructure and business engagements, has catered to a vast number of industries.

Govt Reaction:
Downsizing the politico-political criticism, Industries Minister Uday Samant downplayed the situation. “The legal notice is correct, but it is the government’s law department which would reply to this issue in due course. Does this entire issue have any connection with the MVA opposition alliance? ” he said, hinting at Minister Rohit Pawar. He said, “In the first term of MLA, Rohit Pawar has come out as a force to reckon with. Competition in MVA to bring such issues is there. In due course, our legal team will take up the notice.”
While the government has promised to handle it legally, no official declaration has been made as yet regarding when and how the dues will be settled. This ambiguity has only added to the political and diplomatic pressure on the Maharashtra administration.
