Jail officials have come out to allay the fears expressed by the Aam Aadmi Party over the health condition of their leader Arvind Kejriwal in Tihar Jail. The AAP expressed concern over the sudden loss of weight of the Delhi Chief Minister; jail authorities, however, assured that Kejriwal was being kept under close watch and there was no threat to his health.
A statement to this effect was issued by the Office of the Superintendent of Central Jail No 2. It confirmed that he is indeed provided with home-cooked food, as per the court’s instructions. Reports were originally received that Kejriwal has lost weight; however, they said that Kejriwal’s vitals are normal and he is getting all necessary medical care. “Though he has lost some weight, all his vitals remain normal and he continues to receive appropriate medical care for all his ailments,” the statement read.

Jail officials released a weight chart of Kejriwal, going on to demonstrate the transparency with which things were being conducted. Clearly shown on this is his weight at different times—63.5 kg, which decreased to 61.5 kg between June 2 and July 14. Authorities said that this has been communicated to different government officials so they become aware and act in time. They believe that such a step would help clear all sorts of misconceptions from one’s mind about Kejriwal’s health and the treatment being given to him inside the prison.
Tihar Jail reacted after AAP’s Sanjay Singh, MP in the Rajya Sabha, expressed apprehensions in regard to Arvind Kejriwal’s health. Mr. Singh stated that since his arrest, the AAP leader lost 8.5 kg and his blood sugar level was drastically falling, sometimes as below 50 mg/dL. “They have cast an evil eye on Kejriwal, and they want that he suffers from a serious disease.” He further said, “The situation is highly worrisome and requires immediate remedial action.”.

The press conference taken by Sanjay Singh underlined the party’s fears over Kejriwal’s health. It is said that weight reduction and his fluctuating blood sugar indicate that he has a critical health problem, which might increase further if not treated properly. According to Singh, these health problems are related not only to the jail condition but part of greater conspiracy against Kejriwal.
However, jail authorities rubbished all such reports. They said the kind of narrative that the AAP leaders are trying to propagate has no element of truth in it, but something that they are motivated to do. That the party was trying to dent the credibility of the jail authorities to its advantage politically. Sanjay Singh criticized the jail authorities for the offense they committed by releasing the medical reports of Kejriwal. No patient’s record of treatment can be made public; all this proved there is indeed a conspiracy against Kejriwal, he said. “Making the medical report of any patient public is an offense. While AAP has been ranting that Kejriwal’s health is fast deteriorating as a result of a deliberate plot against him, officials of Tihar Jail countered, saying he is being properly taken care of and Kejriwal’s condition is stable.
