Himachal CM Sukku visits the site of cloudburst at Samej, announces immediate assistance of ₹50,000

Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Himachal CM Sukku visits the devastated cloudburst site of Samej in Rampur area of Shimla district. In this tragedy, 33 persons have turned missing, and it has also left a trail of destruction in the local community and its infrastructure. The Chief Minister Himachal CM Sukku visits and had gone there to take a stock of the situation, condole with the grief-stricken families, and oversee the relief and rehabilitation work.

Incident in Rampur area

He reassured the victims and their families that the state government, at its end, would leave no stone unturned in providing all assistance and support immediately to the disaster-hit areas.

Immediate Provision of Financial Relief
The hurried announcement that Chief Minister Sukhu did for an immediate relief package was for soothing the affected families. ₹50,000 each to the affected family shall be provided for overcoming their immediate needs. ₹5,000 per month for three months shall also be provided by the state government for renting accommodations while the process of recovery has just begun.

He further assured that more financial announcements for rebuilding the houses would be declared soon. He reviewed the relief and rehabilitation operations being conducted in Samej during his visit. He asked officials of the district administration to work out alternate arrangements so the families are not put to unnecessary hardships. This becomes very important for reducing further distress and paving the way for an early recovery of the community.

The Chief Minister  Himachal CM Sukku visits and also met Government Senior Secondary School Samej students whose lives have been turned upside down by the tragedy. Eight classmates from this school are still missing, leaving their peers in a state of shock and disbelief. Student Rakhi and Kartik Thakur shared their fears and apprehensions about the damage to their school and the mental trauma they were facing.

Community Resilience and Support
Vimla Devi of Samej narrated the dreaded night of cloudburst and fear, panic that gripped one and all in that village. The Chief Minister Himachal CM Sukku visits and listened to him patiently and showed empathy and understanding for the problems being faced by the community. He reassured the people that the state government stands with them firmly in this moment of crisis, rubbing off the perception that the people affected by the tragedy are not alone and the State government is very much with them.

Sukhu’s comments underlined the intentions of the government to build resilience at the community level. “The government stands shoulder to shoulder with the affected persons, and it will support the families during this difficult time. All the affected families are my family members, and I assure you that a relief package will be announced shortly,” he said, underlining the approach of recovery and support in unison.

Extent of Damage and Loss
The cloudburst seems to have caused destruction of a severe nature as 38 houses and two bridges have reportedly been damaged in the Samej area alone. While 10 people were safely rescued, 33 others are still missing. This disaster has caused loss more significant than life, with widespread damage being reported across several districts.

Himachal CM Sukku visits and told the media during his interaction that heavy rains and cloudbursts occurred all over Shimla, Mandi, and Kullu districts during the night. Five cloudbursts occurred inside these districts, he added, leading to a considerable amount of loss as far as property and life are concerned. So far, six persons are reported dead, and 47 others are still missing.

The calamity destroyed 14 motorable and pedestrian bridges, 115 houses, 23 cowsheds, and 10 shops besides three fish farms. The catastrophe has simultaneously affected important infrastructures like national highways and several local roads, causing the complete disruption of transport and communication services.
