Dr’s Rape-Murder Case: Polygraph Opens Pandora’s Box in Kolkata Tragedy by Releasing Horrific Details

The shocking rape and murder case of a 31-year-old trainee doctor in RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata has horrified the nation. As part of their probe into the gruesome incident, the CBI carried out polygraph tests and one of those who underwent the test is the prime accused, Sanjay Roy. According to reports, Sanjay Roy has confessed to the crime and given chilling details about the developments leading to the incident.

Events Leading up to the Crime
A Night Out: Visits to Kolkata’s Red-Light Areas

The two visited many red-light districts in Kolkata on the night of August 9. They first visited the red-light area near RG Kar Medical College, where Saurabh’s brother was admitted. In the words during his admission while taking the polygraph test, the two friends had planned on drinking liquor after leaving the hospital at about 11:15 p.m. The two purchased liquor near a place known as “5 Point,” about one kilometer away from the hospital.

The couple had planned to go to Sonagachi, one of the red-light areas of Kolkata, for purposes of having sex. But apparently something did not click right that ended their plans and instead headed towards Chetla, another red-light area within South Kolkata. En-route, the molested a woman on the street, which was recorded by some CCTV cameras.

Alcohol and Disregard: A Lethal Combination

Upon reaching Chetla, Roy and Saurabh did not think that their night of debauchery was over: they drank beer. Saurabh had an experience of sexual intercourse in the area, and Roy was outside, engaged in the same over a video call with his girlfriend. Eyewitnesses confirmed that over this call, Roy had asked his girlfriend to send him nude pictures of herself. Over the receipt of this image, both decided to return to the hospital.

The Crime: A Horrific Act of Violence
Back to RG Kar Medical College

Sanjay Roy and Saurabh returned to the RG Kar Medical College between 3.30 and 3.40 at night. After some time, Saurabh left, booking a bike ride for his return. But Roy did not leave the hospital premises. During the investigation carried out by the CBI, Roy moved close to the operation theatre in the trauma centre and, from his appearance, seemed like he was searching for something.

CCTV footage from the hospital reveals Roy going gingerly down the corridors, Bluetooth hanging around his neck, as he made his way to the seminar hall on the third floor. His demeanor, as captured in the footage, suggested he was alert and actively searching for something or someone.

Entering the Seminar Hall: The Crime Unfolds

Roy’s confession revealed that he entered the seminar hall where the trainee doctor was asleep. He reportedly strangled her and smothered her mouth to make her not scream for help. The poor victim was struggling; later, she fainted. Roy then raped her and murdered her in the act. Only after his escape did he realize his Bluetooth device fell at the place of action, which turned out to be the best evidence that lead to his investigation.

Aftermath: Mourning and Outrage Nationwide; Public Outcry, Demand for Justice

The brutal murder of the trainee doctor shook the entire nation, as protests and demonstrations started emerging, asking for justice to be done to the victim. Doctors and the citizens stormed into the streets, showing their anger and sorrow while seeking severe action against the accused. Not only did the safety concern in medical institutions come to light, but also the need for stringent measures against such heinous crimes.

Role of CBI and the Investigation

Since the commission of the crime, CBI has come into being to reveal the truth. The polygraph tests so far conducted on Sanjay Roy and six others are very fruitful in collecting valuable clues to the chronological order of some events leading to the crime scene. His confession coupled with evidence collected from CCTVs and other forensic tests have built up the case against Roy.

Conclusion
Institutional safety measures come with their own share of problems: the gang-rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College is a glaring example of what is reportedly being tolerated in such an institution of higher learning.
As the CBI proceeds with its investigation, the hope shared is that justice will come fast and that steps will be executed to guarantee the safety of all citizens. The nation grieves over the promising young life and hopes for a new tomorrow where such brutalities will never be carried out.
