David Miller Dominates, Turning Match Against Netherlands One-Sided
David Miller, Man of the Match, said, “It was a good finish in the end. The wicket was better than the first game. Credit to the Netherlands bowlers – they bowled really well.”
1:52 pm South Africa narrowly escape a shock defeat. They were faltering at 12/4. They were chasing a paltry 104. The ghosts of Adelaide and Dharamsala were looming. However Miller quickly dispelled these fears. He scored 59* off 51 balls. Tristan Stubbs played an important role as well. His contribution was 33 off 37 balls. The two of them forged a 65-run stand. It saw South Africa get out of a tricky situation. Despite two wickets in the latter end that revived Netherlands’ hopes, South Africa got their second consecutive victory in the World Cup.
Miller’s attacking batting sealed the match in the 18th over. He hit the lead for a six over deep square leg off the fifth ball. He led South Africa to victory. The South African dugout and fans heaved a sigh of relief. The delivery was a good length and at just the right angle towards middle and leg. Miller pulled him hard into the stands.
Earlier in the over, Miller hit another six off de Leede. Straight over fine leg. Turn in the ball, on the shorter side of length, towards middle and leg, but Miller’s powerful shot sent it for six runs. Two balls later he lofted another ball over extra cover for four runs. Thus he completed his half-century. A well bowled slower ball outside off was a bouncer though. Miller let it go. He slashed the next short and wide delivery towards deep extra cover for two more runs.
Miller’s fine innings secured South Africa the hard-earned victory. He continued his fine form in the World Cup.
