Amarnath Yatra 2024 has taken off to a flying start, and in just 16 days, more than three lakh devotees have already enrolled themselves for the famous pilgrimage towards the caves of Amarnath. This annual pilgrimage began this time amidst eagerness and faith, which is likely to surpass the record made in 2011 when 630,000 pilgrims completed the Yatra.

For Hindus all across India, the pilgrimage to the holy cave of Amarnath, located in the south Kashmir Himalayas, holds great spiritual significance. The journey takes place via mainly two routes: through Pahalgam and Baltal. The spirit of the pilgrims does not get dampened despite intermittent rains and thundershowers along these routes.

An official announcement by the Yatra on Monday said that, though presently at a decent pace, the steady inflow of devotees was in continuation of the previous years and thereby reaffirmed expectations of crossing all previous records by the end of the 52-day-long pilgrimage. More than 15,000 pilgrims trekked to this pilgrimage this year, all of whom offered prayers inside the holy cave of the shrine underlining the deep sense of devotion which powers this annual pilgrimage.

Scores of thousands of devotees begin preparation months in advance, embark on an arduous journey that pushes through their physical prowess and spiritual commitment; it is for the local administration to ensure that all the pilgrims pass through safely and healthily and to organize the logistic arrangement of facilities all along the route.

A fresh batch of 4,875 pilgrims commenced their journey from Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu on Monday. They started towards the Valley in escorted convoys. This logistic support by Assistant Commissioner, Rajouri, smoothens this in journey of this Yatra for one and all.

The Amarnath Yatra is no religious sojourn but a cultural phenomenon that binds people from diverse walks of life into one bond of faith and reverence for Lord Shiva.
