Chiranjeevi’s Bholaa Shankar OTT release amidst much fanfare, fared poorly at the box office. Helmed by Meher Ramesh, it was touted as a biggie given the colossal following Chiru enjoys among his fans. The movie hit the screens on August 11, 2024. Bholaa Shankar is the remake of Tamil Super hit film Vedalam starring Ajith Kumar in the main lead. The movie story begins with Shankar enacted by Chiranjeevi, an ex-gangster. Though Shankar has quit his mafia life, he is still dreaded by everyone in Ranasthali, to which place he shifted. He had come into the town with his adoptive sister Mahalakshmi- played by Keerthy Suresh, and this sister means everything to him.

All of that tranquil life gets flipped when Mahalakshmi becomes a target for one of the most powerful, dreaded mafia groups. The moment the protector mode kicks in, Shankar decides that it is time for him to bring down that gang and digs up dark secrets from the past, which endanger their futures.

The whole heart and soul of the story are in the emotional bonding of Shankar with his sister, Mahalakshmi. A storyline of revenge, family loyalty, and redemption drapes into the movie as Shankar confronts his old enemies. In case the overall plot didn’t hold well with the audience, Chiranjeevi as a tough yet emotionally vulnerable character was to sell for the film.

Cast: A Talented Lot Fails to Save the Film
One of the major attractions of this movie Bholaa Shankar is the ensemble star cast in the movie. Apart from Chiranjeevi, the film featured all other leading stars of South India, including Tamannaah Bhatia and Keerthy Suresh. Tamannaah plays the role of a gutsy lawyer who assists Shankar in his mission of upholding justice. Her character adds some comic and romantic moments to the otherwise serious plot of the movie.

Adding emotional depth to the film is Keerthy Suresh, sister of Shankar. The relationship between her and Chiranjeevi’s character is very affectionate and warm; thus, they really act as an emotionally strong backbone to the story. Among the long list of supporting casts, famous names like Vennela Kishore, Sreemukhi, Sushanth, and Tarun Arora take on important roles that help advance the plot.
